Read this fantastic article If You Only Knew (Chip E.) and interview of Chip E. (Irwin Larry Eberhart II, 43) posted by Jacob Arnold from the Gridface blog.  Chip E. (also known as The Godfather of House) was the first artist to release a dance track which contained the words “house” and “jack,” and therefore spawning so many House tracks to be released by other House artists, also contained such words (either in the title and/or hook):  7 Ways To Make You Jack (Hercules),  Jack Your Body (Steve Silk Hurley), Jack To The Sound Of The Underground (Fast Eddie), House Nation (House Master Boyz), etc.

Silver Medallion are a pretty awesome edgy hip-hop/electro crossover act based in Scottsdale, AZ that are kind of blowing up. They’ve opened for acts like LMFAO, the “Dyslexic Speedreaders” (Dirt Nasty, Mickey Avalon, Andre Legacy, Beardo), Lil Jon, Far East Movement, and a bunch of others I can’t remember. They also DJ some badass electro music and put out mixtapes, and are on the radio in about a dozen major markets. Not bad for an indie band!

Anyway, I dig what they are doing, and have spent some time remixing their trax. The first drop is “The Iggy,” I love the attitude of the original version, and thought the rap would work really well in a 4 to the floor electro-house banger.  Whoop, here it is:

“Scottsdale,” the first song by SM that I heard, I was like – damn this track is hot. The hilarious thing was that within 30 mins of hearing it, Oren and Carnegie rolled through where I was at.

“Gravity” is the most recent video they dropped. It was filmed in my hood – downtown Phoenix, AZ. Except they left the homeless people, crackheads, streetwalkers and Sherriff Joe’s thugs out of the video.

Just listen to this track NOW!! and then read all this while it’s still playing. HopScotch is one serious bad ass long, epic track that has ever been produced. Just look at the studio line-up: music production Sly & Robbie the dub legends … vocals Gwen Guthrie … and engineering/mixing/remixing Larry Levan. Groovy track ….. instantly grabs you by its hooks and deeply connects within you.  Such an incredible bassline, synth chord stabs, four-to -the-floor kicks, and countless of other musical dub elements floating in and out. Beautifully engineered and mixed-down. Class-A production through and through. This track is TRUTH.
